Shipshewana Weekend!

With a crazy busy Monday I am just getting to post on my weekend, which was spent with my mom in Shipshewana, Indiana. If you haven't been you really should. They have flea markets, vintage shops, and stores filled with beautiful furntiture and textiles.

I fell in love with all these stars. The pottery is my favorite.

Some great handmade placemats, apron, and valances.

This was my favorite quilt design that we saw.

Tin front cabinets were everywhere!

Here is a vintage chair, kitchen towel, tiles, chalkboard, fiesta pottery, and antique glass doorknobs (from left to right). All found at Vintage Home.

A couple of the cute shops we went to.

We had a lovely weekend of shopping but the best part was this adorable bed and breakfast called Songbird Ridge. The owner decorated it so perfectly cozy you feel like you could just curl up with a cup of coffee anywhere. If you get to Shipsee I'd highly recommend it.

New Additions to the Apartment

I am always enjoying making some changes to my decor from time to time and this past week I added a new tablecloth and changed up the curtains in the dining room.

Here is the old look of the dining room:

Here is the new look for the drapery. I took out one panel and draped the remaining panel off to the side to let in more light.
The new tablecloth is from Anthropologie, one of my favorite stores. It has been on my wish list for a long time. It is nice to change up the look from time to time and I love the mix of patterns - inspired by Krista Ewart. I keep telling my husband that it is very important to the creative process to never be "done" designing your home. I'm not sure I have him convinced just yet, haha. It is an ongoing creative process and for me, never ending fun!

Beach House

What I wouldn't give for a cute little beach house like this one! It is so fun, bright, and colorful. Decorated by another of my favorite designers, Krista Ewart. In case you missed the article in the July/August issue of House Beautiful take a look at the pictures below.

Quote from Krista that I love, "My style of decorating is, I love this, I love that, let's put it all together and make it work!" I love that philosophy since that is exactly how I feel. It lets you mix anything and that is sooo much more fun than abiding by any "rules" of decorating.

The adorable pink fridge is from Sears.

My favorite piece here is the turtle!

Never be afraid of mixing colors and patterns. See how well it works here.

The wallpaper is Hinson's Fireworks wallpaper by Albert Hadley. It works perfectly with the pink shower curtain and accents.

I could sit out on this patio for hours hanging out with family and friends. Hope you have great summer weekend plans in store. Happy Friday!

Designer Spotlight.............Summer Thornton

Wow, what a crazy busy week this has been for me! This summer has been flying by way too fast and I'm sure you feel the same way too. I'm happy to get back to posting on Tutu Style about a Chicago area interior designer that completely inspires me. First of all I've been passionate about textiles for such a long time and Summer Thornton worked with a high-end European Textile company within the Merchandise Mart - my dream job. Plus she has worked with many amazing interior designers and began her own interior design firm in 2007 - again a dream of mine! I recently discovered her design while checking out Dream Home at the Merchandise Mart where she designed the Foyer, my absolute favorite room in all of Dream Home. Check out the video of the room here.

Here it is - inspired by photographs by Annie Liebowitz, which were inspired by Alice in Wonderland - again one of my favorites.

I also checked out Summer's website, which had many more inspiring rooms you can see pictured above. I love her design philosophy of having fun and not being too pretentious about decorating. I hope you have the opportunity to see her design at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago soon because it is well worth it!

Josef Frank Textiles

Along with residential design and hotel design I am in love with textile design and would like to develop my own line one day. I just discovered Josef Frank Textiles while looking through one of my favorite blogs, Apartment Therapy. Josef Frank lived from 1885 until 1967 and is a well known architect and textile designer. The colors and patterns are so beautiful and fun. It has made me want to just go for a bright color patterned sofa. Why not be bold? Or even wallpaper in a pattern designed by him. It is very nature inspired and organic looking, which is something I am very drawn to as well. If anyone knows where to get some fabric let me know!

Waterworks and Steven Gambrel

My previous post on the new products at Waterworks just didn't do them justice! So take a look below at the amazing new brick tile that was designed by Steven Gambrel. It is called Grove Brickworks and can be used in any style - modern, rustic, traditional....pretty much anywhere. It is baked from brown clay in kilns built in the 1920s! You can also use different color grout to give it a different look as well. Take a look at the pictures below.

Steven Gambrel began his own design firm in New York in 1995. Below is some of my favorite work of his all from his own home. His use of modern mixed with traditional and amazing colors could never bore.

This is my favorite. Such a cozy little nook.

Friday Cocktails

Can you even believe it is Friday already. This week has flown by and I'm ready to spend some time with my hubby and relax with a glass of wine. I have been really loving some cute little bar set ups I've seen lately for your home. Check out the pictures below for the most adorable kitchen I may have ever seen with a beautiful cabinet set up as a bar.

This wallpaper is so pretty and the black cabinet really stands out. This is not your typical kitchen and I love how they added the wallpaper, art work, and lamp to really give it a cozy feel.

Here's a close up of the bar tray set up. My favorite part.....the vintage horse picture of course. So inspired.
Happy Friday all!

My New Passion!

I hope everyone had a lovely 4th of July weekend. Mine was spent camping in Michigan, one of my absolute favorite pass times. Getting back in the groove of things this week and discovered my new passion! I am completely and utterly in love with hotel design! Who would have thought. I've always been so into residential design and now I see hotels could be the most fun thing ever. Of course I have been inspired by the amazing Dorothy Draper and as of just recently Kelly Wearstler. You can see two of her hotel designs below. Wearstler's style has inspired me for years and her new book, Hue, is on my wish list for sure. She just goes for it and does these crazy designs with such fun large scale pieces and bold colors and patterns. Just love! You can definitely be inspired by these hotels to do something like this in your home as well.

The Viceroy Santa Monica

Really loving this color combination.

Maison 140
I love the rich dark colors. So warm and cozy - the perfect place to hang out while on vacation.

I'm not sure I'd ever get out of this bed. It looks so cozy and wish I had that headboard!
